Digital Switchover produces first successful candidate!

Clydebank College who last year became the first Centre in Scotland to gain accreditation to offer the qualifications necessary to become a registered digital installer has just certificated its first successful candidate through City and Guilds.

The government’s decision to switch over from analogue to digital television transmission nationwide by 2012 has resulted in the need for aerial installers to update their skills. Clydebank College is one of the few accredited centres to provide the necessary qualifications and currently the only Centre in Scotland.

Gary Hoffman of ‘Gary Hoffman Ltd’ came to the college last year to complete his NVQ following advice from the Registered Digital Installer (RDI) professional licensing body. The public is currently being advised by the Government to use aerial installers who are accredited under the Registered Digital Installer scheme which acts as a quality assurance kite-mark for installers. Part of the criteria for becoming a Registered Digital Installer is to have completed NVQ Level 2 or 3 in ‘Electrical and Electronic Servicing – Signal Reception Path Way’ awarded by City and Guilds.

Company Director, Gary Hoffman said, ‘the college’s support has been fantastic and everyone has been very helpful. As a family run business, established in 1992 I feel it is important for my customers to have the peace of mind that they are dealing with a professional firm that takes accreditation seriously.’

Patrick Padden, Business Development Manager at Clydebank College said ‘We are delighted that Gary Hoffman is our first candidate to achieve this qualification. He worked extremely hard and has shown great determination throughout.’

To undertake the qualification candidates must be working in the field of aerial installation and possess an awareness of television aerial and system installations. Candidates also have to be aware of health and safety such as working at heights and customer care and be able to recognise and operate digital television related test and measurement equipment to a level acceptable in the workplace.
